"today in the bay's" christie smith joins us live at the court building in san francisco this morning. a lot of people paying attention to this. >> reporter: that's right. medical marijuana advocates up and down the state will be watching this one really closely. already about 200 cities and counties in california have a ban in place on pot dispensaries. for the first time the state supreme court is going to step in to decide whether cities can legally have the right to restrict these dispensaries. nearly three dozen bay area cities have bans or limitations in place. some arguing that cities really need to be able to control when and where these businesses operate. the impacts aren't always positive. dispensaries like amsterdam garden in san jose, many people believe that if the state sides with a city's right to ban it, it could be a slap in the face for california voters. >> very disappointing. as a voter i wouldn't feel like my voice is being heard. this is something that's being decided 16, 17 years ago, 1996. >> reporter: california voters l

"today in the bay's" christie smith is live in san jose with more details on this man's extremely daring escape. christie, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. anthony sanchez is a big guy. to lessen the stress on his shoulders,an jose police linked two pairs of handcuffs together when they put him in handcuffs and put his arms behind his back. he used their kindness to their advantage and gave san jose police officers the slip yesterday. he stole a police van, they say, from detectives who had just taken him into custody on drug related warrants. police handcuffed him and put him in an unmarked van. an officer was doing paperwork when sanchez slipped the cuffs off, probably moving them under his body and he took off. the keys were in the ignition at the time. fortunately the van was found two hours later where his disappearing act is quite unsettling for neighbors. >> i was kind of shocked. you know, who can do that? big guy. how can he get out of -- we're kind of don't know what to think. kind of scary. >> reporter: san jose police say there were no weapons in that van. anth

"today in the bay's" christie smith joins us live at sfo with the latest on the cancellations. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. first thing travelers are doing is walking up to arrival and departure board to make sure their flight is heading out or to see if it is canceled. there are cancellation this is morning. most travelers we spoke with have heard about this big snowstorm expected to be one of the worst in years to hit the northeast. and this morning cancellations here are up and down the board at sfo to places like boston, new york, and new jersey. now the airport duty manager tells us there are 52 cancellations so far. sort of a ripple effect that is hitting here. 35 departures, 17 arrivals have been canceled. back east early warning signs were there. snow across the midwest, rain and wind from the southeast. hundreds of flights were canceled in advance of the storm in places like jfk, laguardia,ory halaguardia, o'hare in chicago. i spoke with a traveler who got here at 3:00 this morning to get to boston. everything wa

in the bay prepared to handle any mischief. >>> "today in the bay" christie smith live in san francisco with a look at how fans reacted to our loss. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, jon and laura. certainly that loss to the baltimore ravens was hard to swallow for 49ers fans. disappointing to say the least. this is one of the neighborhoods that san francisco police wanted to keep an eye on to make sure that fans and vandals didn't get out of control. sketchers is one that has been hit in the past. nothing happened at all down here it 25 people were arrested. overall fairly quiet. most of the noise this morning coming from street sweepers and power washers even working now at 5:00 in the morning this is new video we just shot. a few people did throw bottles at police near 24th street. no one was hurt. another person was arrested when he tried to light something on fire over near 16th and mission. san francisco police were ready. they had extra police officers as fans spilled out of the bars in a very somber mood. parking officers had shut down parts of the mission and 24th
